Face blur FAQ
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Face detection and blurring both run entirely in your browser — this tool has no server-side mode, and your photos never leave your device.
How accurate is the face detection?
It finds frontal and near-frontal faces reliably, including small faces in group shots. Very small, heavily tilted or mostly occluded faces can occasionally be missed — open Review and drag a box over anything the detector skipped. False boxes can be removed the same way.
What is the difference between Mosaic, Blur and Solid bar?
Mosaic pixelates the face into blocks — the classic censor look. Blur applies a strong Gaussian blur for a softer edge. Solid bar covers the face with an opaque rectangle. All three make the face unreadable; pick whichever matches your photo.
What do the strength levels do?
For Mosaic, strength controls block size; for Blur, it controls blur intensity. Solid bar is always fully opaque, so strength does not apply.
Can I blur something that is not a face, like a license plate?
Yes. Detection only finds faces, but in Review you can drag boxes over plates, addresses, tattoos or anything else — every box gets the same treatment, and you can mix them in one photo.
Does it work on batch uploads?
Yes — up to 50 photos per run, each scanned and blurred automatically, downloaded as a single ZIP. Review any single photo without touching the rest.
Which formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP in; output keeps the original format (GIF exports as PNG, first frame).
Is it really free?
Yes — unlimited batches, no account, no watermark, no sign-up.
Can a blurred face be un-blurred later?
No. Mosaic, Gaussian blur and solid bars all destroy the original pixels — export over your original file only if you are sure you will not need the faces back.
How is this different from the Blur tool?
Blur blurs an area you select by hand — right for one spot you already know. Blur Faces finds every face for you first, which is the safer default whenever people, not regions, are what you need to hide.
